Entry-Level Computer/Electrical Engineer – Embedded & Tactical Systems

Interested in embedded systems, hardware integration, networking, and real-world defense technology? NSWCDD is seeking entry-level Computer Engineers and Electrical Engineers to support the development, integration, testing, and troubleshooting of tactical planning, visualization, and mission support systems for the U.S. Navy.

In this role, you will work alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams supporting software and hardware development efforts tied to advanced Navy platforms and operational systems. This position offers hands-on experience with embedded systems, communication protocols, instrumentation, networking, and system integration in a fast-paced engineering environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Support the development, integration, testing, and maintenance of tactical and mission support systems
  • Assist with software and hardware troubleshooting activities
  • Work with communication protocols, networking systems, and embedded hardware components
  • Support integration of sensors, devices, and system interfaces into operational software and hardware environments
  • Conduct system testing, debugging, and performance analysis
  • Utilize instrumentation tools such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers to troubleshoot and validate systems
  • Collaborate with software engineers, hardware engineers, systems engineers, and military stakeholders
  • Document technical work and communicate project updates to team members and leadership
  • Support development efforts using modern software engineering and systems engineering practices

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related STEM field
  • Experience through coursework, internships, research, or personal projects in one or more of the following:
    • C#
    • C++
    • Embedded Systems
    • Microcontrollers
    • Communication Protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, etc.)
    • Networking Concepts (TCP/IP, UDP)
    • Hardware Troubleshooting
    • Instrumentation Tools (Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers)
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in defense technology, embedded systems, tactical systems, or system integration

Preferred Experience

  • Hands-on hardware or embedded systems project experience
  • Internship or research experience involving hardware/software integration
  • Experience debugging software or electronic systems
  • Exposure to networking concepts and system communications
  • Familiarity with Agile, DevSecOps, or systems engineering processes
