Packaging Engineer Intern

The Packaging Engineer Intern will support the development, evaluation, and improvement of packaging solutions used to ship automotive parts to customers and Nifco manufacturing locations. This role works closely with Logistics, Production, Quality, and Engineering teams to ensure packaging designs meet Nifco standards, customer requirements, and automotive industry expectations for safety, durability, and efficiency. The intern will assist with packaging documentation, audits, data analysis, and continuous improvement efforts focused on cost reduction.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in the development and implementation of packaging designs that protect parts, support high-volume production, and meet customer and industry standards.
  • Work with cross-functional teams including planning, production, quality, and logistics to support packaging launches and ongoing improvement activities.
  • Support material selection and testing to identify packaging solutions that reduce damage, minimize waste, and control costs.
  • Analyze and improve existing packaging to enhance functionality and efficiency in the supply chain.
  • Use CAD software and design tools to create packaging concepts, prototypes, and visual documentation for internal use and customer approval.
  • Assist with packaging audits, cost tracking, and data collection to support continuous improvement and customer reimbursement processes.
  • Help develop and maintain packaging specifications, bills of materials, and related documentation for new and existing products.

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a college degree in Packaging, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines. 
  • Must be able to maintain excellent attendance. 
  • Proficient in CAD software and packaging design tools. 
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office products.
  • Able to perform mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and averages. 
  • Behave in a positive manner that enhances the success of the company.
  • Able to sit or stand for long periods.
