Annual Salary Range: $48,684 - $73,188

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s (TDEC) Division of Air Pollution Control has an engineering position in the Nashville Central Office or any of the eight state-wide Environmental Field Offices. The selected engineering candidate will work in the Metal, Paper, and Wood Products Permitting Section and be responsible for drafting technical and regulatory documents and reviewing engineering reports to ensure compliance with air pollution control regulations. TDEC employees are currently working in alternative workspaces from their home with some scheduled time in their assigned office.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree of higher in engineering or engineering technology, with preference for experience with, and understanding of federal and state regulations. The position requires a valid driver’s license and may require overnight travel. Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications (MQs) for this position. Highlighted Responsibilities:

  • Review applications for air permits from stationary sources of air pollution at industrial entities, private businesses, and state facilities.
  • Identify applicable federal and state regulations and apply them in a variety of technical and regulatory situations.
  • Draft construction and operating permits for stationary source of air pollution to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Help maintain a comprehensive database system.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with management, other division employees, and the public, to help issue accurate and enforceable permits.
  • Meet critical deadlines and do follow-up on assignments with a minimum amount of direction.
