Marketing Game-Day Production Student Assistant

The Marketing Game-Day Production Student Assistant for Iowa Athletics Marketing is an event-based position that provides support to the Athletics Marketing unit. Gam- Day Production Student Assistants are trained to assist in the planning and execution of all Athletics home competitions. Game-Day Production Student Assistants show leadership, professionalism, enthusiasm, critical thinking skills and exceptional customer service while representing the University of Iowa Department of Athletics and the University of Iowa.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Game Presentation 
    • Assist with the setup, execution, and breakdown of marketing and promotional activities at athletic events.
    • Support fan engagement initiatives, including giveaways, contests, and on-field promotions.
    • Serve as a point of contact & coordinate special guests, groups, or individuals related to game presentation.
    • Fulfill sponsorship related activities.
    • Fully grasp all aspects of game production, from timing, locations, operations, and staffing. 
  • Customer Service 
    • Willingness and ability to be front-facing, providing a welcoming and hospitable experience for fans and guests. 
    • Display a keen attention to detail and manage displays and giveaways that impact the fan experience (i.e., marketing tables, giveaway stations, etc.).
    • Ability to effectively communicate with fans, contestants, and partners, to ensure success and create positive experiences. 
  • Collaboration and Communication 
    • Ensure clear & concise communication with members of the game production team, including, Spirit Squad, Band, and other student staff.
    • Be present for and attentive at pre-production meetings where the sport lead will review assignments for the event. 
    • Attend meetings at the beginning of each sports season to review expectations and gain an understanding of what your role will consist of for the given season.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Iowa, preferably working towards a degree in Sport & Recreation Management, Sport Media & Culture, Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field
  • Strong interest in sports marketing, event planning, or athletics administration.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; 
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships; 
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work interdependently and independently;
  • Working knowledge of and ability to:
    • Utilize basic office support software (word processing, email, presentation software and spreadsheets) 
    • Operate effectively within a highly regulated team environment.
  • Willingness to commit to a flexible weekly schedule during the academic semester which may include working evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift/carry up to 50lbs. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Basic knowledge of social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X).
  • Previous experience in athletics, marketing, or event operations.
  • Familiarity with Iowa Athletics and the Big Ten Conference.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable interacting with fans, student-athletes, staff, and large crowds.

HOURLY RATE: 

$10 per hour. Opportunity for a yearly increase based on performance and longevity.

WORK HOURS:

20 hours a week except during breaks (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer) Events occur on nights and weekends, and may also take place over school breaks (Thanksgiving, Winter Break, Spring Break).

SUPERVISION:

Marketing Game-Day Production Student Assistants report to the full-time marketing team, including the Director of Marketing, Assistant Directors, and Marketing Coordinator Interns.
