Marketing Promotions & Event Student Associate
The Promotions & Event Student Associate supports the day-to-day operations of the marketing/game production unit. Promotions & Event Student Associates are trained in the planning and execution of all Athletics home competitions. They support the planning, promotions, and advertising efforts of the unit. Successful applicants must display professionalism, leadership, enthusiasm, critical thinking skills, and exceptional customer service while representing the University of Iowa Department of Athletics and the University of Iowa.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Promotional Planning
- Help develop and implement marketing plans for assigned sports.
- Contribute creative ideas for increasing attendance and fan engagement.
- Assist in scheduling and organizing theme nights and special events.
- Game Day Operations
- Assist with the setup, execution, and breakdown of marketing and promotional activities at athletic events.
- Support fan engagement initiatives, including giveaways, contests, and on-field promotions.
- Coordinate with spirit squads, mascots, and other game day personnel.
- Produce the run-of-show and direct gameday operations.

Digital Support
- Update and maintain website pages and mobile app
- Create and proof email marketing campaigns
- Assist with push notification messaging and scheduling

Graphic Design and Content Creation
- Assist in designing flyers, posters, and digital graphics using tools like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop) and Canva.
- Help maintain consistency with the department’s branding guidelines.

Administrative Support
- Maintain inventory of promotional materials and supplies.
- Assist with data entry, research, and reporting on marketing campaign analytics.

Interdepartmental Communication
- Work closely with other interns, full-time staff, and student-athletes.
- Attend regular team meetings and contribute to creative efforts.
- Communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including fans, sponsors, and campus partners.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a current University of Iowa student entering their junior or senior year in Fall 2026, or current graduate student working towards a degree in Sport & Recreation Management, Sport Media & Culture, Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field.
- Strong interest in sports marketing, event planning, or athletics administration.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships;
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work interdependently and independently;
- Working knowledge of and ability to:
- Utilize basic office support software (word processing, email, presentation software and spreadsheets)
- Operate effectively within a highly regulated team environment.
- Willingness to commit to a flexible weekly schedule during the academic semester which may include working evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift/carry up to 50lbs.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator or Canva,) is a plus.
- Experience with video editing tools (Adobe Premier Pro) is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X).
- Previous experience in athletics marketing, event management, or event operations.
- Familiarity with Iowa Athletics and the Big Ten Conference.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable interacting with fans, student-athletes, staff, and large crowds.
WORK HOURS:
20 hours a week except during breaks (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer) Events occur on nights and weekends, and may also take place over school breaks (Thanksgiving, Winter Break, Spring Break).
HOURLY RATE:
$11.00 per hour. Opportunity for a yearly increase based on performance and longevity.
SUPERVISION:
Promotions & Event Student Associates report to the full-time marketing team, including the Director of Marketing, Assistant Directors, and Marketing Coordinator Interns.
