High School Special Education Teacher

OVERVIEW
The ECS Special Education Teacher is an intervention, differentiation, and curriculum adaptation specialist.  Working collaboratively with general education teachers, education assistants, paraprofessionals, building specialists, and the Campus Leadership Team, the ECS special education teacher provides the modifications and adaptations students need in order to participate in the rigorous and engaging learning opportunities within the classroom.  Special education teachers work to ensure all students (K-5) are supported through case management across or within grade levels as determined by the Campus Leadership Team.  Candidates should be energetic and progressive-minded, with a willingness to work collaboratively with the building staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with the general education teachers to modify and adapt curriculum and PBL experiences for students with disabilities based upon a variety of instructional techniques
  • Collaborates with parents, administrators, school psychologists, and other professionals to develop individualized education programs (IEPs) designed to promote students’ educational, physical, and social/emotional development    
  • Provides instruction or instructional supports in all academic subjects using a variety of techniques to reinforce learning and to meet students’ varying needs and interests
  • Provides direct and indirect instructional support to students in a variety of settings, including small group, one-on-one, and inclusive classroom settings
  • Facilitate a positive, achievement-oriented, and structured learning environment in which all students can experience success        
  • Implement school-wide behavior management policies and the Olweus Bullying Prevention program within classrooms and throughout the school
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations in a timely and professional manner        
  • Collect and maintain data to track student progress, drive individualized instruction, and to design academic interventions
  • Maintain professional competence by participating in opportunities for professional growth
  • Serve as the case manager for students with IEPs and communicate regularly with families to share academic and behavioral progress and develop a supportive home-school relationship    

Educational Background and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution 
  • PA Certification in special education; dual certification in Math or ELA preferred
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience preferred
  • Familiarity with charter schools and high school students desirable

Compensation and Benefits
Minimum starting salary of $44,716 plus a $1000 special education supplement.  Additional compensation may be awarded to highly qualified individuals.
