Human Resources Intern
Position Summary: The Intern, Human Resources will support the HR in plant and corporate activity, including payroll, benefits, recruitment, training and development, and Company-Union mediation. This position will take on numerous long-term and short-term projects provided by team members and management that will develop skills and provide exposure to a Unionized environment from an HR perspective. This position will also perform numerous clerical duties, including, but not limited to, filing paperwork, mailing letters and packages, taking messages, and scheduling meetings. This internship in HR is considered a full-time position on a temporary duration.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Perform occasional benefits and payroll audits to ensure correct garnishments and deductions are being processed
- Write, edit, and publish Human Resources newsletters on a recurring cadence and post hardcopies accordingly
- Perform numerous administrative and clerical duties, including, but not limited to, filing, mailing letters and packages, and taking messages, as required
- Participate and assist with disciplinary hearings
- Support recruitment processes, such as job postings, panel interviews, and candidate selection with the HR team and management
- Write and edit job descriptions for non-exempt and exempt positions
- Participate in supervisor training, including developing and presenting the bi-weekly topic
- Assist plant personnel with numerous HR functions, including but not limited to, payroll and benefits questions, badge and clock-in procedures, bereavement and jury duty, new hire processes and union-company mediation as required
- Support Labor Relations, Maintaining Employee Records, Training and Development Support, and Communication and Employee Engagement
- Track attendance, overtime, and personnel actions
- Write or revise policies and procedures as necessary
- Perform special Human Resources projects as necessary
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Must be enrolled in a local accredited college or university in a related field
Years of Experience:
- 1+ years experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus. This can include previous internships.
Other Requirements:
- Regular and predictable attendance required
- Cooperate within teams to carry out tasks and responsibilities
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local employment laws, preferred
- Must complete QAD training as required by management
KEY COMPETENCIES
- Advanced/ Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Office Suite; Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
