Our goal is to integrate MEP systems into the building design so they blend with themes and enhance the design aesthetics rather than overpowering them.
The Opportunity: Technical Leadership & Succession
This position is intended to support our current retiring Chief Electrical Engineer and offers a clear opportunity to develop into this leadership role. You will work out of our Germantown, MD office, specifically our recently renovated "Suite 100"—a technologically forward workspace environment designed to support collaboration and MEP design excellence.
In this role, you will:
- Provide additional leadership for the Electrical Department: Provide oversight, supervision, and quality control for electrical team members.
- Innovate: Develop unique and innovative design solutions that address complex architectural challenges.
- Collaborate: Be proactive and demonstrate a strong understanding of architecture and building construction. You must be able to coordinate effectively with other disciplines to meet the functional engineering needs of the project.
- Execute: Perform engineering assessments, investigations, prepare reports, designs, specifications and cost estimates.
- Manage Construction: Review submittals, respond to RFIs and PCO’s, attend/conduct construction progress meetings, perform field inspections and punch lists, and closeout projects.
Technical Focus: Building Systems
We require deep expertise in the design of complex building systems. You will be responsible for the design and specification of:
- Power Distribution: Normal, emergency, and critical power systems.
- Lighting: Interior and exterior lighting design and advanced lighting control systems.
- Life Safety: Fire alarm, fire suppression coordination, mass notification, and life safety lighting.
- Low Voltage & Technology: Audio/Visual (AV) systems, telecommunications, broadband, and Local Area Networks (LAN).
- Specialized Systems: Video networks, sound & public address systems, central clock systems, and security systems.
- Sustainable Technologies: Net Zero strategies and energy modeling.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor of Architectural Engineering (BAE), Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE).
- Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) License is required.
- Experience: 10+ years of work experience within the Architectural-Engineering /Facilities industry.
- Certification: LEED accreditation (or similar sustainable design certification), RCDD.
- Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship is required due to the nature of our government projects.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, including high proficiency in technical writing.
- Software Proficiency: Must be computer-oriented with working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit. Familiarity with electrical/lighting applications such as SKM and AGi32 is required. Expertise with MS Word and Excel. Proficiency with Google Suite and similar software.
