Hawaiian Language Teacher
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated educator to support a proposed Hawaiian language–based middle school program serving 7th and 8th grade students in Central Oʻahu. This role centers on culturally grounded instruction and the integration of Hawaiian language, culture, and identity into student learning.
The teacher will work with 7th and 8th grade middle school students in a small cohort setting designed to support academic growth, cultural connection, and student engagement.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Ability to obtain a valid Hawaiʻi State teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit upon hire
- If hired without completion of a teacher preparation program:
- Must enroll in an approved Hawaiʻi Teacher Education Program
- Must obtain full Hawaiʻi teaching licensure within 3 years of employment
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid Hawaiʻi Teacher Standards Board (HTSB) teaching license
- Experience working in Hawaiian language or Hawaiian culture–based educational settings
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of Hawaiian language (fluency preferred)
- Experience working with middle school–aged learners (grades 7–8)
- Commitment to culturally responsive, student-centered teaching practices
- Ability to integrate Hawaiian language and culture into daily instruction
- Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills

- This role is part of a proposed program, contingent on enrollment interest and program approval
- Employment structure (full-time or part-time) may be determined based on final staffing model
- Additional supports (such as housing or relocation assistance) may be considered depending on funding availability
