Parkside Community Preschool—Lane County’s oldest licensed childcare center—is hiring part‑time Float Teachers and Substitute Teachers to support both of our locations:
Parkside Community Preschool (Maurie Jacobs Park) and Parkside Community Preschool South (Leap and Learn Center).
These roles are ideal for students, early childhood educators building experience, or anyone who thrives in a flexible, supportive environment. Floats and subs are essential members of our team, helping ensure classrooms remain safe, nurturing, and engaging each day.

About the Role
Float and Substitute Teachers support Lead and Support Teachers across Preschool and Toddler classrooms. You may work in one room for the day or move between classrooms depending on staffing needs. This role is active, hands-on, and rooted in relationship-building and responsive care.
Hours are part‑time and vary based on program needs and your availability.
Key Responsibilities
- Support classroom teams in implementing Creative Curriculum and Spark/QRIS standards
- Engage children in age‑appropriate activities that promote social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development
- Build warm, positive interactions with children and families
- Assist with toileting, changing, and hygiene routines
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment
- Communicate professionally with staff and follow established classroom routines
- Support daily observations and documentation as needed
- Follow all USDA, state, and program policies
- Provide coverage in multiple classrooms across both locations
Qualifications
Required
- Experience in preschool or toddler classrooms
- Step in the Oregon Registry (or ability to obtain)
- Reliability and strong communication skills
- Understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practice
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and engage in active indoor/outdoor play
- Current or ability to obtain:
- Infant/Child CPR & First Aid
- Oregon Food Handler’s Card
- Oregon Background Registry enrollment
- Required OCC trainings
Preferred
- Minimum 1 year of professional childcare experience (or strong practicum/volunteer experience)
- Step 7 or higher in the Oregon Registry
- Familiarity with Creative Curriculum and TS Gold
