Construction Estimating Intern

We're looking for a motivated UT Austin student to join our team as a Construction Estimating & Project Management Intern. This is not a coffee-and-copies internship — you'll be hands-on with real projects, real numbers, and real subcontractor relationships from day one.

This role is designed as a long-term pipeline to a full-time positionwith Ridge Rock Builders after graduation. We want to invest in someone who wants to build a career in residential construction and grow with our company.

What You'll Do

Learn to estimate — work alongside our team to develop project estimates, perform quantity takeoffs, and price out scopes of work for new construction and remodel projects

Build subcontractor relationships — communicate with trade partners (framers, electricians, plumbers, HVAC, etc.) to gather accurate pricing, schedules, and bid packages

Support the GC day-to-day — assist our general contractor with project documentation, change orders, RFIs, scheduling, and on-site coordination

Bring your tech skills to the table — leverage AI tools, Excel, and modern construction software to make our processes faster and more accurate

Visit job sites — get out from behind the desk and see how plans become reality

What We're Looking For

Currently enrolled at UT Austin, preferably Junior or Seniorstanding

Open to all majors, but preference for students in Construction Science, Construction Management, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or Business who are serious about a long-term career in the construction industry

Strong Excel skills (formulas, tables, basic modeling — you'll live in spreadsheets)

Comfortable and proficient with AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) and willing to use them to work smarter

Generally tech-savvy — quick to pick up new software and tools

Excellent communication skills — you'll be on the phone and email with subs, clients, and our team daily

Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities

Reliable transportation (job sites are throughout the Austin/Hill Country area)

A genuine interest in building things and a desire to grow into a full-time role with our company

Schedule & Compensation

Hours: 20–30 hours per week during the school year (flexible around your class schedule), with more available if desired. Full-time hours available during summer and school breaks.

Pay: $22.00/hour to start, with performance-based increases as you take on more responsibility

Location: Our office is in Dripping Springs with regular travel to Austin-area job sites. Some hybrid/remote work possible for estimating and admin tasks.

Why Ridge Rock

Direct mentorship from the GC and ownership — not buried in a corporate intern program

Small-team environment where your contributions are visible and valued

Submit your resume along with a short note (a paragraph or two) telling us:

Why you're interested in residential construction
