Summer Sales & Marketing Intern
Boatwell is a resort lifestyle brand making easy, wearable apparel for life on the water. Born on Lake Okoboji, Iowa, with a second shop on the Canal in Georgetown, DC.
We're in the middle of rebranding from Boat House Apparel to Boatwell, and we're hiring our Summer Staff with opportunities to extend into the fall. This is a real moment for the brand: a new name, a new story, and a new chapter for our Georgetown shop. We're looking for someone who wants to be part of building it.
About the Role
This role is built for a self-starter. You'll run the shop during your shifts, run marketing projects, lead pop-ups and events, and bring ideas to bigger projects including the rebrand itself, our upcoming fashion show, and our 2027 collection. You'll work directly with one of the founders for direction and feedback, but the day-to-day is yours.
A typical week includes 3 to 5 shop shifts of 4 to 6 hours each, where you'll open or close, own the customer experience, process sales, and manage all the merchandise. You'll have additional hours allocated for independent projects, marketing, content creation, and planning, plus 1 to 2 evenings per month supporting in-shop events and pop-ups around Georgetown.
Why This Role Matters
The summer of 2026 is the summer Boatwell becomes Boatwell. You'll help us roll out the new name in Georgetown, shape the social and content storytelling that introduces it to customers, and bring the brand to life at our events and pop-ups. What you create, ship, and lead this summer becomes part of the brand's history.
Responsibilities
- Run the shop during your shifts: opening and closing, customer service, sales, and merchandising
- Lead Boatwell's social content during the rebrand: photographing product, drafting and scheduling Instagram posts, managing customer DMs
- Lead pop-up and event execution from prep through breakdown
- Contribute to marketing campaigns and the storytelling behind our transition from Boat House Apparel to Boatwell
- Bring ideas and energy to bigger projects, including our upcoming fashion show and 2027 collection
Minimum Requirements
- Currently enrolled student or recent graduate
- Genuine interest in fashion, retail, marketing, or small business
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Eye for style and visual presentation
- Comfort with Instagram
- Reliable transportation to Georgetown
- Available throughout the summer including weekends and occasional evenings
- Two references required
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with Adobe and/or Canva, photography, or content creation
- Prior retail, hospitality, marketing, or events experience
- Self-starter mindset and the ability to take initiative
- Interest in branding, identity, or rebrand work
Duration & Compensation
Partially paid summer internship running mid-May through September 1, 2026, with start and end dates flexible for the right candidate. Possibility of extending into fall.
What You'll Walk Away With
A real portfolio: social campaigns you ran, events you led, content you created during a rebrand, and a hand in producing a fashion show. Direct mentorship from a founder. A real understanding of how a small lifestyle brand evolves from the inside.
