Summer Intern – Manufacturing Equipment Analysis, WCB
JOB SUMMARY
The Summer Intern – Manufacturing Equipment Analysis will support WCB’s manufacturing organization by developing a fact-based baseline of machine utilization, capacity, and efficiency at Delevan, Wisconsin sites. This role will focus on analyzing production equipment performance, including capacity, utilization, OEE, quality, first pass yield, and scrap, using existing manufacturing data and standardized analytical models. The intern will work cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, Continuous Improvement, and Finance to validate assumptions, identify constraints, and translate data into actionable insights. The internship will culminate in a structured analysis and presentation to the WCB leadership team, with recommendations for operational improvement and develop recommendations for a go‑forward approach to tracking equipment utilization and efficiency.
This internship provides hands-on exposure to real-world manufacturing operations, cross-functional leadership engagement, and executive-level decision support. The intern will gain experience working with imperfect data, partnering across functions, and developing analytical insights that inform operational and capacity planning decisions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Compile and validate a comprehensive inventory of production equipment across the manufacturing site.
- Analyze equipment capacity, utilization, and demand using standardized analytical tools and Excel-based models.
- Support assessment of OEE components (availability, performance, quality), first pass yield, scrap, and downtime, where data is available and identifying data gaps and limitations where needed.
- Partner with Manufacturing and Engineering teams to validate rates, shift patterns, downtime assumptions, and production constraints.
- Identify bottlenecks, underutilized assets, and drivers of inefficiency.
- Translate analysis into clearly articulated operational insights and improvement opportunities.
- Document data definitions, assumptions, and limitations to ensure transparency and repeatability.
- Develop recommendations for a go-forward process to track equipment utilization and efficiency.
- Prepare a presentation summarizing findings, opportunities, and recommended next steps.
- Present final results to the WCB leadership team with support from manufacturing leadership.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to work with large data sets.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to synthesize complex data into clear, concise insights.
- Comfortable collaborating cross-functionally in a manufacturing environment.
- Preferred qualifications include exposure to manufacturing operations or industrial environments, familiarity with manufacturing concepts such as capacity, utilization, OEE, yield, and scrap, and experience with data visualization or reporting tools (Power BI or similar) field.
