Job Summary

Garden State Laboratories, Inc. is seeking a full-time Chemist who will report to the Organics Manager located in our Hillside, New Jersey Lab. The Chemist will be responsible for using analytical methods to provide prompt and accurate testing for assigned environmental samples using approved standard analytical techniques that comply with our laboratory standard operating procedures. The analyst will perform chemical tests in environmental samples, which include drinking and wastewater samples, as well as solid hazardous wastes, utilizing, among others, approved EPA, NJDEP, and Standard Methods.

 

Responsibilities

• Maintain log(s) of all samples received in the lab for assigned parameters for analysis.
• Make sure all necessary supplies required for the assigned tests are in stock and current.
• Maintain and update all logbooks associated with the assigned analytical procedures.
• Ensure that all instruments and equipment used for sample analysis are calibrated and in good working order prior to any sample analysis.
• Prepare and perform sample analysis utilizing assigned instruments using current and approved SOPs and within regulatory holding times.
• Perform routine maintenance of instruments and equipment as assigned.
• Conform to all GSL QA/QC practices.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment for self and other lab employees as required by GSL health and safety guidelines.
• Notify management of any conditions that may adversely affect the suitability or validity of the requested analysis.

Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor or manager to accommodate short-term departmental needs.

 

Experience & Education Requirements

• At least an associate degree in science or an equivalent of two 2 years of environmental laboratory experience

• A bachelor's degree in science is preferred, but not required.
• Laboratory experience in Organic techniques is required.
• Garden State Laboratories provides training to all new hires.

 

Job Skills

• Experience with GC/MS instrument operation is required.
• Flexibility and willingness to learn

• Computer skills: Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
