Communications & Member Engagement Intern

Position Title: Communications & Member Engagement Intern

Term: Summer 2026

Location: Remote, with optional hybrid opportunities in Columbus, Ohio

Supervisor: Executive Director and/or Designee, QuSTEAM

Compensation: $2,500 Summer Intern Stipend


Position Overview:

QuSTEAM is seeking an enthusiastic, reliable, and detail-oriented graduate student to serve as a Communications & Member Engagement Intern for Summer 2026. This paid internship provides hands-on experience supporting communications, stakeholder engagement, and organizational growth initiatives within a national nonprofit advancing Quantum Information Science and Engineering (QISE) education and workforce development.


The intern will collaborate closely with organizational leadership and key partners to strengthen member engagement, support communications activities, and contribute to strategic priorities. 

The intern will also benefit from mentoring, professional development support, and exposure to national efforts advancing QISE education throughout the internship term.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Drafting newsletters, announcements, and member communications
  • Assisting with social media content planning and scheduling
  • Supporting website and digital content updates
  • Helping develop outreach materials, one-pagers, presentations, and communication tools
  • Assisting with maintaining membership contact lists and engagement records
  • Supporting onboarding and welcome communications for new members
  • Helping coordinate virtual meetings, webinars, and networking activities
  • Conducting light background research related to higher education, workforce development, and stakeholder engagement
  • Participating in planning meetings and supporting priority summer projects
  • Receiving and applying constructive feedback to improve work performance


Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled and in good standing at an accredited college or university graduate program (master’s or doctoral level)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and take initiative in a remote environment
  • Professionalism, reliability, and responsiveness
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace or Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to receive and apply constructive feedback

 

Preferred Knowledge & Competencies:

  • Some familiarity with Quantum Information Science or relevant coursework preferred
  • Interest in STEM education, workforce development, research translation, or nonprofit leadership
  • Experience with Canva, LinkedIn, Zoom, Mailchimp, or similar tools
  • Ability to observe, synthesize, and summarize information effectively
  • Collaborative mindset and willingness to contribute as part of a small team
  • Professional curiosity and desire to learn within an emerging national field

 

Commitment:

  • 15–20 hours per week
  • Flexible work days with required weekday daytime availability


Compensation:

  • Summer stipend of $2,500.00
  • QuSTEAM is willing to complete documentation for internship, practicum, or experiential learning credit at the student’s home institution upon request.
  • Reimbursement for mileage and parking for approved assignments/tasks.
