Education Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree Specializing in cytotechnology. Required
Licenses and Certifications
- Cytotechnologist (CT) - ASCP Registry eligible also accepted (must take and pass registry within six months of hire date). Required
What you will do
- Utilizing microscopic technique, screens glass slides according to established procedure for detecting abnormal or cancerous cells. Records findings accurately in the medical record.
- Identifies and appropriately marks cellular abnormalities. Works in close collaboration with pathologists to provide accurate and timely diagnoses.
- Assists with fine needle aspiration collection and evaluation.
- Correlates cytologic findings with findings from subsequent biopsies.
- Receives and processes gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens. Produces high-quality stained slides.
- Maintains proficiency testing as set forth by governing bodies. Assures that workload recording is accurate and complete so that screening limits are not exceeded.
- Assists in maintaining adequate supplies and equipment for the department.
- Assists with teaching, training and mentoring cytotechnologist and medical lab assistant interns and trainees.
- Assists department leadership in development of budget, policies, procedures, work standards, and goal-setting.
