Position Overview
M.C. Molds is seeking motivated students for a Co-Op / Internship in CNC Machining and Mold Manufacturing. This hands-on opportunity is designed for students pursuing careers in machining, manufacturing engineering, tool & die or CNC programming.
Participants in this program will gain real-world experience working alongside skilled machinists, mold technicians and engineers while learning the full lifecycle of industrial mold manufacturing — from machining and assembly to maintenance and repair.
This position is ideal for students who are mechanically inclined and interested in developing practical skills in CNC machining, mold repair and precision manufacturing.
Responsibilities
Machining & Manufacturing
• Assist with the setup and operation of 3-axis and/or 5-axis CNC machining centers
• Download CNC programs to machine controllers
• Assist in editing CNC programs at the machine when required
• Work with the CNC programming and CNC Machining department to determine efficient machining processes for mold components
• Inspect machined parts during and after manufacturing using precision measuring tools
Mold Maintenance & Tooling
• Disassemble and clean industrial molds
• Polish molds and mold components
• Assist with mold repair and maintenance
• Assist with TIG and micro welding repairs when applicable
• Tape and sandblast molds as required
• Assemble molds and tooling components
• Perform water testing of molds after assembly
General Shop Responsibilities
• Review BOMs and prepare tooling for upcoming jobs
• Maintain mold documentation and production records
• Assist with fixture and jig preparation
• Follow proper machining practices including speeds and feeds for a variety of materials
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment
• Complete other tasks and projects as assigned by supervisors
Preferred Qualifications
• Currently enrolled in a Machining, Manufacturing, Tool & Die or Engineering Technology program
• Basic understanding of blueprint reading
• Familiarity with GD&T fundamentals
• Exposure to CNC machining or manual machining equipment
• Experience or coursework involving Heidenhain, Fanuc or Hurco controls is a plus
• Knowledge of basic fixtures, tooling and machining practices
• Mechanically inclined with strong attention to detail
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
