STUDENT MEDIA & MARKETING ASSISTANT

$15/hr (hourly)

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Media & Marketing Assistant develops the visual identity, digital presence, and promotional communications of the Office of Opportunity, Empowerment & People. Working within the parameters of NMU and OEP brand standards and guidelines, this student employee brings creativity and initiative to design compelling content that reflects the office's inclusion-centered mission and amplifies its programs, events, and community. This role is ideal for students with a passion for design, storytelling, and strategic communication.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Social Media Management

  • Maintain OEP social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, and other relevant platforms) with consistent, engaging content
  • Develop and execute a social media content calendar aligned with office programming, campus events, and cultural observances
  • Monitor engagement and respond to comments and messages in a timely, on-brand manner
  • Capture and post real-time content from office events, workshops, and community gatherings

Design & Visual Content

  • Design posters, flyers, digital graphics, and promotional materials for office events and programs using NMU and OEP branding kits
  • Apply creativity within established brand parameters, using colors, fonts, logos, and messaging standard, to produce fresh, visually compelling content
  • Maintain a shared library of design assets, templates, and completed materials for office use
  • Collaborate with team members to design materials for OEP programs, outdoor initiatives, and other cross-campus collaborative projects

Website Updates

  • Perform regular updates to the OEP website including event listings, staff information, resource links, and program descriptions
  • Ensure website content is current, digitally accessible, and consistent with office messaging and NMU web standards
  • Flag outdated content and recommend improvements to overall web presence

Office Promotions & Campaigns

  • Assist in the development of promotional campaigns for signature programs and events
  • Draft and distribute email announcements to student and campus audiences
  • Coordinate with campus media offices and student publications to expand program visibility

General & Cross-Office Support

  • Participate in cross-training to deliver general office information and represent OEP at campus-wide events
  • Support overall Office of Opportunity, Empowerment & People programming and initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Currently enrolled NMU undergraduate student
  • Minimum 2.5 undergraduate cumulative GPA; minimum 3.0 graduate cumulative GPA
  • Available 30+ hrs/week during the summer term
  • Strong visual design sensibility and attention to detail
  • Commitment to inclusion and student-centered storytelling

Preferred

  • Experience with design platforms such as Canva, Adobe Express, Photoshop, or Illustrator
  • Experience managing social media accounts for an organization, club, or business
  • Familiarity with NMU branding standards or willingness to learn quickly
  • Experience with basic website content management (e.g., Drupal, WordPress or similar CMS)
  • Photography or videography skills a plus
