Student Trainee (Information Technology)

Joining Customs & Border Protection (CBP) will allow you to utilize your skills providing technical assistance and support to specialists by performing a variety of assignments in the Information Technology Group. This experience provides an opportunity to explore career options, develop personal and professional skills, developmental assignments, and formal interactive training using real-life situations.

Typical duties may include:

 

  • Assisting in the applications software work involving the support of new or existing applications software, involving the basic planning, general installation, configuration, testing, implementation, and management of the systems environment.

 

  • Providing systems administration work involving entry-level planning and delivery support services, including, troubleshooting, and customer assistance.

 

  • Maintaining systems customer support work involving the entry-level planning the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware and software systems.

 

  • Assisting in enterprise architecture work involving basic analysis, documentation, and maintaining of the enterprise structural framework to align IT strategy, plans, and systems.

 

Qualifications

You must be a student who has been accepted for enrollment or who is currently enrolled and seeking a degree on a full or half-time basis in one of the federally administered, organized educational programs or accredited educational institutions below such as a public or private high school; state-approved home school; technical or vocational school; two (2) year or four (4) year college or university; graduate or professional school; a registered apprenticeship program, job corps or postsecondary home school curriculum. AND:

GS-04: Completed 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree. Two years of full-time academic study is defined as 60 semester hours, 90 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university.
