We are looking for an undergraduate YouTube Thumbnail Design Intern for a 1099 internship contract. This internship is 100% remote in the United States.
Qualification for this opportunity requires
- Submission of a design portfolio
- Completion of a demo project
- At least 10 hours of synchronous meeting availability between 1:00 PM and 5:00 Central Time on weekdays, for the next 6 months

This role may require you to
- Design eye-catching, semantically grounded YouTube video thumbnails
- Translate intuitive graphic design decisions into objective symbolic and procedural rules
- Provide "semantic feedback" to the Deion engineering team to help refine the visual logic, layout decisions, and aesthetic guardrails of Deion’s Semantic Design Engine algorithm
- Use professional design software like Figma to create bespoke visual assets
- Audit thumbnails produced via Semantic Design Engine to identify graphic design errors and propose systemic corrections
- Collaborate with the Deion engineering team to translate graphic design principles into algorithmic rules
- Communicate with Deion customers and users to better understand their unmet needs
- Document design systems, style guides, and brand standards to support Semantic Design Engine’s modularity, scalability, and production-grade consistency across use cases
- Collaborate with teammates using Slack, Notion, Google Meet, and/or other software
An ideal candidate has
- Strong proficiency with professional design software (Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.) as evidenced by an online design portfolio
- A deep understanding of visual communication, typography, and the "thumbnail psychology" required to capture viewers’ attention
- Demonstrated ability to semantically deconstruct an effective YouTube video thumbnail into its core components
- The ability to explain aesthetic trade-offs and graphic design logic to technical peers
- Effective modular thinking skills evidenced by the ability to break down large, intricate undertakings into a series of smaller self-contained tasks
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Emotional intelligence and coachability
