Data Analyst

POSITION SUMMARY

The Data Analyst plays a critical role in advancing the organization's mission by transforming raw program and operational data into clear, actionable insights. Working collaboratively across program, development, and leadership teams, this position supports data-driven decision-making by designing and maintaining evaluation frameworks, producing compelling reports and dashboards, and ensuring data integrity throughout the organization. The ideal candidate is both analytically rigorous and mission-passionate, with the ability to communicate complex findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.


 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Data Analysis & Program Evaluation: Conduct regular impact assessments, needs analyses, and program evaluations using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies to measure effectiveness and inform continuous improvement.
  • Data Management & Governance: Oversee data collection, cleaning, storage, and management in compliance with organizational standards, confidentiality policies, and applicable data governance requirements.
  • Reporting & Data Visualization: Create user-friendly, visually engaging reports and dashboards for both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including program teams, leadership, and funders.
  • Evaluation Framework & Strategy: Design and maintain robust evaluation frameworks that measure program outcomes, align with organizational goals, and inform strategic decision-making.
  • Collaboration & Capacity Building Partner with program, development, and leadership teams to deliver data insights that support program enhancement and assist staff in building data literacy for day-to-day use.


 

Technical Skills:

  • Leadership and Delegation: Ability to lead research initiatives and delegate tasks effectively to team members or collaborators.
  • Research Platforms: Proficiency in research platforms and tools, including Python, Qualtrics, Microsoft Office Suite, and Java.
  • Analytics: Skilled in statistical and data analytics software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R), with a strong foundation in analyzing complex datasets.
  • Data Collection and Cleaning: Experienced in data collection methods and techniques, ensuring clean, accurate, and reliable data for analysis.
  • Qualitative and Quantitative Data: Competent in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, applying each effectively to capture comprehensive insights.
  • Evaluation Design: Ability to design robust evaluation frameworks that measure outcomes and inform strategic decisions.
  • Creating Reports and Sharing Data: Skilled in creating clear, compelling reports and dashboards to communicate findings effectively to stakeholders, including program teams and funders.
  • Editing and Proofreading: Strong attention to detail in reviewing reports, ensuring clarity, coherence, and accuracy in documentation.
  • Research and Evaluation Planning: Skilled in planning and executing research projects aligned with organizational goals.
  • Instructional Design Principles and Learning Theory: Knowledgeable in instructional design (ID) principles, learning theory, and educational frameworks to support effective program evaluation.
  • Graphic Design and Multimedia: Familiar with tools such as Articulate, Captivate, and other eLearning and multimedia platforms, capable of creating engaging visuals and interactive reports.


 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Social Sciences, Public Policy, Human Services, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree or certifications in research methods, program evaluation, or data analytics (e.g., SAS, SPSS, Google Data Analytics, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Students with relevant majors and coursework aligned to the above are encouraged to apply for intern/volunteer roles.

Experience

  • 1–5 years of experience in data analysis, program evaluation, or research, ideally within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
  • Proven experience conducting impact assessments, needs analyses, and program evaluations; community-based program familiarity strongly preferred.
  • Experience working across cross-functional teams and communicating findings to non-technical audiences.


 

Additional Information

Estimated time commitment: 9-10 hours/ week depending on needs, in addition to weekly meetings and occasional conference calls.

Term limit: 6 Months unpaid/volunteer position (Can be extendable on mutual agreement).
