The Division of Student Success Technology Services is looking for a student assistant to help support the needs of our users. This position will work closely with full-time staff. Primary job responsibilities include inventory management, desktop software support, application patching, data entry, and aiding in other miscellaneous tasks. The position will engage with a variety of staff. You must be able to handle phone calls, e-mails, in-person conversations, and chat sessions while always maintaining a polite and respectful attitude.
Job Duties: Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Serve as a point of contact for clients
- Answer incoming inquiries professionally and direct them to appropriate staff
- Monitor the department's email and ticketing system for new requests
- Create and route new support tickets in the ticketing system with accurate information
- Provide initial communication and acknowledgment to clients upon ticket creation to confirm receipt and set expectations for follow-up
- Perform general clerical tasks such as filing, photocopying, data entry, and document scanning
- Maintain organization of all office areas.
- Assist staff with special projects as needed
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to university policies and procedures
- Complete required trainings as directed
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Be an energetic self-starter who can take direction
- Strong attention to detail
- Works well in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable working and collaborating with multiple departments
- Knowledge of contemporary operating systems and office productivity software is preferred but not required
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Customer service experience or a willingness to learn
- Familiarity with office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Team Dynamics)
- Ability to learn and use the ticketing system efficiently
- Dependable, detail-oriented, and able to multitask
- Professional demeanor and willingness to take initiative
EMPLOYEE EVALUATION PROCESS: Student employees are evaluated by their supervisor at the end of each long semester.
PAYRATE DETERMINATION: All student employees begin at the starting pay rate and may increase by .25 after two long semesters (fall and spring) of employment with a positive evaluation from their supervisor using the Student Employee Career Readiness Evaluation form.
