Summer 2026 - Career Center Student Engagement Intern

Internship Title: Student Engagement & Career Content Strategy Intern

Position Overview

The Student Engagement & Career Content Strategy Intern will support the Career Center’s efforts to expand student engagement, enhance communication strategies, and improve the accessibility and effectiveness of career readiness resources. This role is ideal for a student interested in marketing, communications, higher education, or data-driven engagement strategies.

Working closely with the Team Lead for Student Engagement Initiatives, the intern will play a key role in strengthening outreach to student organizations, optimizing newsletter content and performance, and refining workshop and resource materials to better meet the needs of UMBC’s diverse student population.

Key Responsibilities

1. Student Organization Outreach & Engagement

  • Research and identify active student organizations across campus, with an emphasis on underrepresented populations/untapped groups 
  • Develop and maintain a centralized outreach tracker for student organizations
  • Assist in creating tailored outreach strategies and messaging to increase awareness of Career Center services, events, and resources
  • Collaborate with student leaders to identify opportunities for partnerships, co-hosted events, or targeted programming
  • Support efforts to expand and strengthen the Career Center Student Advisory Council (CCSAC) and other student ambassador initiatives

2. Newsletter Strategy & Content Optimization

  • Analyze newsletter performance metrics (open rates, click-through rates, engagement trends) to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Assist in A/B testing subject lines, formatting, and content types to increase engagement
  • Curate and draft compelling, student-centered newsletter content (year-long, bi-monthly v. monthly) aligned with career readiness themes and key timelines (internships, recruiting cycles, events)
  • Recommend strategies to better segment and personalize communications for different student populations
  • Collaborate on integrating multimedia content (e.g., short-form videos, featured resources) into newsletters

3. Career Content Development & Resource Refinement

  • Audit existing career resources (workshop materials, one-pagers, guides) to identify gaps, redundancies, and opportunities for improvement
  • Assist in developing new, high-impact resources (e.g., one-pagers, quick guides, “how-to” content for tools like Forage)
  • Refine workshop content to ensure clarity, relevance, and accessibility (including ADA considerations)
  • Help translate complex career concepts into engaging, easy-to-digest formats for students
  • Incorporate student feedback and usage data into content updates

4. Workshop & Program Support

  • Assist in reviewing and enhancing workshop topics, descriptions, and promotional materials to increase attendance and engagement
  • Provide input on new workshop ideas or formats based on student needs and trends
  • Support the development of interactive elements or activities that improve student participation

5. Data Analysis & Continuous Improvement

  • Track and report on engagement metrics across newsletters, events, and outreach efforts
  • Synthesize data into actionable insights and recommendations
  • Assist in collecting and analyzing student feedback through surveys, focus groups, or advisory groups
  • Contribute to ongoing efforts to align engagement strategies with Career Center goals and student success outcomes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in data analytics, marketing, communications, higher education, or student engagement
  • Ability to analyze data and identify trends (experience with Excel, Google Sheets, or similar tools preferred)
  • Creativity and attention to detail in content development
  • Familiarity with social media, newsletters, or digital content creation is a plus (canva) 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

This role is well-suited for a student who is curious about how to effectively reach and engage diverse student audiences, enjoys both creative and analytical work, and is interested in improving how career resources are communicated and delivered. Sophomore, Junior, Senior level education.
