Laboratory Technician

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to support senior scientists on high‑priority, multidisciplinary research projects. This role focuses on fermentation of food ingredients and downstream processing, including extraction, isolation, and purification of natural products. Additional responsibilities may include executing laboratory assays, testing hypotheses, and preparing and evaluating food samples. This is a hands‑on role ideal for someone who enjoys laboratory work, collaboration, and learning new techniques.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and autoclave media, fermentation vessels, and laboratory equipment.
  • Conduct batch fermentations with regular monitoring and documentation of key parameters.
  • Harvest fermentations and perform routine cleaning of equipment and glassware.
  • Perform solid‑ and liquid‑phase extractions, concentrate extracts via solvent removal, and assist with purification using standard laboratory methods.
  • Safely handle solvents, as well as strong acids and bases, in accordance with laboratory safety protocols.
  • Plan experiments in detail and maintain accurate, well‑organized laboratory records.
  • Communicate work plans, progress, and results regularly with scientists and project teams.
  • Work independently when needed while contributing effectively in a collaborative laboratory environment.

Qualifications:

Required

  • 1–2 years of laboratory experience in an academic or industry setting.

Desired

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with fermentation processes and/or chemistry‑based research.

Working Conditions:

  • Onsite role based at our Kalamazoo, MI headquarters.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
