Peer Leader: Gender & Sexuality Center (GSC)

The Peer Leader Program serves to synthesize the work of these 11 offices into one developmental experience for students’ current and prospective aspirations. These roles not only allow students the platform to work with staff to create programming, resources, and peer support for the campus community but also offer students opportunities to think critically about and commit diligently to their own development and skill attainment. 

Gender & Sexuality Center Associates (GSCAs) are student leaders committed to strengthening and sustaining a campus that welcomes people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions. In general, GSCAs will help create resources, events, and learning opportunities geared towards 1) supporting LGBTQIA+ students on campus and 2) collaborating with the broader campus community to expand awareness around topics related to gender and sexuality. More specifically, each GSCA will hold one of the following roles, depending on their professional strengths and experience: 

Campus Education & Resources  
The Gender & Sexuality Center Associate for Campus Education & Resources plays an integral role in the visibility of and education around topics of gender and sexuality. A main goal for this individual/team is to create relevant, thoughtful, interactive learning opportunities for students, staff, and faculty. This individual/team will research and publish articles on historic LGBTQAI+ leaders and events, lead educational workshops, and offer opportunities for educational engagement throughout the year. This committee will also have a liaison for the Queer Mental Health Collective, which will support in coordinating, planning, and attending the programs. 

Expectations 

➔ Work 8-10 hours per week, including bi-weekly team meetings and one-on-one meetings with GSC staff. 
➔ Attend all GSC-specific and Peer Leader trainings and meetings, including (but not limited to):  
    ◆ Spring Orientation  
    ◆ Fall Training (required to return to campus early, approximately one week before NSw begins) 
    ◆ Peer Leader Winter Conference - typically the first Saturday of the Winter Term. 
➔ Some nights and weekends may be required for certain programs or training. 
➔ GSCAs may be committed to other paid or research positions during the academic year. We understand that you may want to split hours between other offices. Please talk to the Assistant Director, Kalena Thwaits, if you have any questions about this.
