Position Overview
Lutherdale is seeking a Waterfront Coordinator to lead and manage all waterfront operations while creating a safe, fun, and Christ-centered environment for campers. This role combines lifeguarding, leadership, and program coordination, making it ideal for someone who enjoys working with youth, being outdoors, and developing leadership skills.
The Waterfront Coordinator oversees waterfront staff, ensures safety compliance, and helps deliver engaging waterfront programming including swimming and boating activities.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Lifeguarding
- Actively lifeguard during all waterfront activities and enforce safety rules
- Supervise campers during swimming and boating activities
- Monitor and maintain accurate counts using buddy boards and wristband systems
- Conduct swim tests and track camper swim abilities
- Respond to and be prepared for all waterfront emergencies
- Monitor lake activity and report concerns (including outside boat traffic)
Leadership & Staff Oversight
- Supervise and support waterfront staff (scheduling, task management, accountability)
- Conduct regular skill checks and trainings to maintain staff readiness
- Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment
Program & Camper Experience
- Lead and support structured waterfront activities in coordination with the Summer Program Coordinator
- Build relationships with campers to help them feel safe, confident, and included
- Support cabin leaders when not scheduled at the waterfront
- Participate in and help lead daily worship experiences
Operations & Maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the waterfront, beach, and boathouse
- Ensure all equipment (boats, paddles, lifejackets) is safe, functional, and properly stored
- Monitor fuel and maintenance needs for watercraft
- Report maintenance or safety concerns promptly
Administrative & Team Expectations
- Attend weekly staff meetings (Sundays and Fridays)
- Follow all camp policies and emergency procedures
- Maintain confidentiality when required
- Contribute to overall camp community, including cleaning and shared responsibilities
Qualifications
- Preference given to staff 21 years or older
- Completed at least 1 year of college or equivalent experience
- Current lifeguard certification (approved agency required)
- Current CPR certification or willingness to recertify
- Previous lifeguarding experience required
- Experience leading or supervising peers strongly preferred
- Ability to work outdoors in a physically active environment
