PRIMARY FUNCTION OF THIS POSITION
This is a full time staffing position for a classroom teacher at St. Joseph Parish School who reports directly to the principal. Pay is salary. Classroom teachers are accountable to students in the grade in which they teach as well as other students in the school.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The teacher respects Catholic values and aids students in Christian formation by exemplifying Catholic living, both in and out of the classroom. Because Catholic schools educate their students to promote the Kingdom of God, it is important that all teachers are role models for students, exemplifying Catholic teachings and values in their lives and in their actions.
The teacher is accountable to the principal to provide education to the grades and/or subjects assigned, to implement the St. Joseph Parish School mission and philosophy, to follow the policies of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and St. Joseph Parish School, and adhere to the directives set by the school administration.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Cultivate a classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Maintain positive classroom management and adhere to the SJPS Discipline Flowchart when addressing challenging student behavior.
- Organize and prepare resources for students.
- Maintain a clean and orderly classroom.
- Teach assigned subjects and assist students as needed.
- Lead daily prayer, participate in school liturgies and plan prayer services as needed.
- Actively prepare students for the weekly all-school liturgies to which you have been assigned.
- Model mature judgment and emotional stability.
- Supervise areas as needed/assigned.
- Escort students to specialty classes and other areas as assigned.
- Communicate with parents/guardians via email, notes, and phone calls as needed. Make every reasonable attempt to respond to messages (electronic, voice, paper) within 24 hours of receipt. No more than 48 hours should pass before contact is made.
- Plan all-school liturgies and prayer services as requested.
- Plan instruction carefully through the use of weekly lesson plans identifying instructional outcomes (Archdiocesan standards) and assessment criteria.
- Utilize a variety of methods of instruction and assessment and integrate technology and visual arts into lessons.
- Collaborate with administration, colleagues, and parents to provide differentiated instruction and assessment and appropriate accommodations and modifications for students with special learning needs.
- Observe and evaluate students’ work to determine student progress or to make suggestions for improvement.
- Assess students on a regular basis using formative and summative assessments.
- Track student performance data and align teaching to student’s needs.
- Communicate high expectations for all students.
- Cooperate with the principal and staff in the planning and development of curriculum.
- Collaborate effectively with other classroom teachers, aides, staff members and specialists school and parish wide.
- Continue professional development through course studies, conferences & workshops.
- Set, work toward, and track professional learning goals based off of the teacher effectiveness framework domains.
- Perform duties as requested by the principal.
RECORD KEEPING DUTIES
- Collect and maintain formative and summative assessment data.
- Keep accurate records of student performance through trimester reports using online grading system.
- Record daily attendance/lunch count of students.
- Complete all required forms and reports in a timely manner.
- Receive notes from parents and pass information on to required parties.
MEETINGS AND ORGANIZATIONS
- Attend all faculty meetings, in-service, and Teacher Conventions.
- Attend special functions when requested.
- Actively engage in professional development.
- Utilize staff development opportunities.
- Participate, collaborate, and take notes for at least one Level Meeting each month.
- Be an active member or lead/co-lead at least one Team Committee.
- Participate and meet requirements of Sustaining the Mission series.
POSITION SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- Must be a certified teacher with a Bachelor degree in education or higher.
- Must maintain a current teaching license issued by the State of Wisconsin for the grade or subject area taught.
- Must adhere to Code of Ethical Conduct and Mandatory Reporting Responsibilities.
- Must submit a criminal background check every 5 years.
- Must complete Safe Environment training prior to employment and renewal training every five years.
- Position requires ability to stand, walk, bend over/crouch and sit for extended periods of time; ability to use hands, speak, and hear.
