Reports to: Dean of Upper School
Work Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, Typical School day professional development
and work days.
Start Date: August 1st, 2026
Position Summary:
The teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and fostering a positive,
supportive learning environment. This role includes guiding students through structured,
content-rich lessons in a specific discipline, nurturing intellectual curiosity, and instilling moral
and civic virtues. Teachers provide students with a robust educational experience during each
class period, ensuring they develop academically and personally.
Essential Functions:
- Teaching courses in middle- and high-school science, including biology, chemistry,
physics, and anatomy & physiology
- Teaching courses in middle- and high-school mathematics, ranging from pre-algebra to
calculus
- Cultivating virtue through instruction, mentorship, and programming
- Participating in Upper School House System as faculty mentor
- Maintaining professionalism in conduct and communication, striving to exemplify our
core virtues. Prepare unit and lesson plans for all courses in alignment with Hillsdale
College's K12 Program Guide for each school year
- Teach and mentor students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods
- Assign, collect, grade, and return graded work in a timely manner
- Continuously monitor student progress and self-evaluate how best to support effective
student learning
- Proactively identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or
academic extensions
- Collaborate with Students Services team to meet requirements of special educational
plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and others
- Communicate regularly, usually weekly, with parents
- Participate in professional development as offered by ACADC and Hillsdale College's K12
Office
- Complete all required training and provide documentation as well as official college transcripts within 90 days of hire date
- Demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English to effectively perform their job responsibilities and communicate effectively in the workplace
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities
- Teachers with a bachelor's degree in the subject taught are preferred, or at a minimum
36 hours of higher education credit in the subject area of instruction. (In some cases, a
passing grade in a content exam will suffice.) A teaching License not required

organization and computer skills
- Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with students, parents,
colleagues, and team members
- Ability to provide excellent customer service while maintaining confidentiality and
professionalism
- Creative problem-solving skills and adaptability to challenges

- Willingness to take responsibility for being on time and maintaining excellent attendance
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds
- Must be able to traverse classroom and school building
- Must be able to monitor indoor and outdoor activities
