Tribal Resource Stewardship Policy Fellow
Located in Fairbanks
This position is part of the Alaska Fellows Program. All fellows live together, “in community,” in their respective host site. Each host site is unique and remarkable.
Fellows receive housing, a $1200 monthly living stipend and a $750 relocation stipend. The fellowship includes facilitated and funded opening and closing retreats.

Organization Description:
Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC) was organized as Dena’ Nena’ Henash or “Our Land Speaks”; an Alaska Native non-profit corporation, charged with advancing Tribal self-determination and enhancing regional Native unity. We work toward meeting the health and social service needs of Tribal members and beneficiaries throughout our region. Our programs and services range from direct healthcare services to tribal development services, the management of natural resources, public safety, community planning and transportation. Position Description: This position is specifically tailored to natural resource advocacy within federal and state management systems. These efforts are directed by TCC region Tribes and yearly resolutions. The Tribal Resource Stewardship Policy Fellow would assist the Tribal Resource Stewardship Department in the management of these resources and interact with Tribal advocates, regional commissions, and federal and state agencies. This position will contribute to the ongoing protection of the game, waters, and lands in TCC’s region throughout the public process.
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct research in preparation for and serve as support staff at federal and state meetings on fish/wildlife/land management
- Craft toolkits and public facing documents to inform Tribal members, Tribal Councils, and advocates on timely resource and land management issues pertaining to subsistence protections, fish and game management, etc.
- Help gather, write, and submit public comments on the Federal Register for various land and resource management issues
- Maintain and develop professional, collaborative, relationships within and outside of Tribal Resource Stewardship
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field;
- Applicant has the ability to establish priorities and ensure that all tasks are completed in a timely and accurate manner;
- Applicant can communicate effectively with both staff and beneficiaries seeking support;
- Applicant has knowledge of and/or experience working with American Indian or Alaska Native cultures, languages, programs, or histories.
