Land, Water and Food Justice Fellow
About the Organization:
The World Council of Churches is a global fellowship of 256 national Protestant and Orthodox churches present in 120 countries, with a total membership of about 600 million - worldwide. The WCC is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland and was founded in 1948. The WCC works on Ecumenism, mission, evangelism and unity on one hand and on the other hand it works on almost all the 17 SDGs and beyond. WCC has been actively addressing about Climate Change and care for creation from 1970s, much before the Earth Summit or the formation of the UNFCCC.
Fellowship Description:
The scope of the intern is to support (virtually) the Land, Water and Food Justice and Advocacy work of the World Council of Churches, through the Commission on Climate Justice and Sustainable Development. The position would include assistance in research, editing, report writing, and documentation related to issues of Land, water and Food including contributing to the production of newsletters, WCC publication “The Living Planet Monitor” etc. Any assistance in fundraising for these projects would be appreciated.
Duties and Expectations:
• Provide administrative, editorial and creative assistance to the editorial team in producing (compiling content, seeking articles from authors, etc) the WCC Ecumenical Water Network Newsletter: “Together for Water”
• Provide administrative, editorial and creative assistance to the editorial team in producing (compiling content, seeking articles from authors, etc) for WCC Publication: The Living Planet Monitor.
• Provide assistance in preparations for the World Water Day and Lent WCC online campaign Seven Weeks for Water 2027.
• Assist in preparation of concept notes and content for seminars and webinars for events pertaining to Land, Water and Food such as Global Hand Washing Day, World Food Day, as well as participating in meetings of the Committee on World Food Security.
• Assist in WCC Participation in the World Social Forum 2026 taking place in Benin.
• Assist in the preparation and participation of WCC in the COP17 (UNCCD) and COP31 (UNFCCC) 2026 – compiling reports through online participation /secondary data.
• Any other assignments assigned by your supervisor, the Programme Executive within the mandate of the internship.
• Assist in any fundraising efforts, including applying for possible funding opportunities on behalf of WCC.
The Intern will report to Mr Dinesh Suna, Programme Executive, Ecumenical Advocacy for Land, Water and Food Justice (EALWFJ).
Qualifications:
• Masters in Sustainability/Ecology/Food systems/Climate /Water, etc. (completed/pursuing)
• Research, editorial, design and communications skills
• Familiarity with issues of human right to water and sanitation is desirable.
Time Commitment: 20 hours / week
