Senior Ombuds Programs Specialist

The Senior Ombuds Programs Specialist is assigned to the Office of the Ombudsperson (OOMP). You will be based at our Headquarters in Manila, Philippines, and relocation is required. All reasonable relocation expenses will be covered.

You will report to the Ombudsperson and will oversee junior team members.

Your Role

As a Senior Ombuds Programs Specialist, you will support the delivery of ADB's informal conflict resolution function and lead initiatives to build conflict competence across the ADB community.

You will:

  • Provide a broad range of informal conflict resolution services including option discussion, conflict coaching, shuttle diplomacy, team processes and mediation.
  • Advise staff of the different resources and formal avenues available to resolve concerns.
  • Identify latest trends and patterns affecting the workplace and create systemic insights for feedback to Management.
  • Develop and conduct skill-building activities to strengthen the conflict competence of the ADB community.
  • Contribute to the Office's outreach and communications plan.
  • Engage with stakeholders and represent OOMP.
  • Lead the preparation of the Office's annual report.
  • Stay current in latest practices in informal dispute resolution.
  • Contribute to ad-hoc projects and activities to enhance the impact and effectiveness of services.

Qualifications

You will need:

  • Master's degree, or equivalent, preferably in social sciences, law, public administration, dispute resolution or related fields; or a University degree in social sciences, law, public administration, dispute resolution or related fields, and at least 5 years specialized experience relevant to the position can be considered.
  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in dispute resolution including international work experience in international organizations across several countries.
  • Experience dealing with different workplace disputes through informal means.
  • Experience design processes for and facilitate group processes.
  • Experience designing and conducting skill-building activities and workshops on conflict resolution topics.
  • Commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion, and sensitivity to cross-cultural factors in communications and interpersonal relations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of concerns through listening
  • Written and verbal proficiency in English.

Additional Information

This appointment is open to internal and external applicants.

This is a fixed term appointment with option to renew, initially for a period of up to 3 years, or up to the Normal Retirement Date (NRD), whichever comes earlier, for the purpose(s) and conditions determined by ADB, in accordance with Administrative Order No. 2.01 (Recruitment and Appointment). After the initial fixed-term period, ADB may choose to renew the appointment for up to an additional 3 years or not renewed. This decision will be made in the overall interest of ADB, based on factors including but not limited to the requirement of Staff's particular blend of skills and experience for the medium-term work program of the organizational unit, sufficient funding to cover the renewed period, and Staff's performance and suitability for employment. There is no limit to the number of renewals up to NRD. However, this appointment is not convertible to a regular appointment.
