Programs Coordinator – Fly Free (Volunteer, Remote)

A Free Bird is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering children affected by cancer through the arts. Our programs provide opportunities for children to explore creative expression while building confidence, joy, and resilience.

The Fly Free program focuses on providing children with unique opportunities in areas such as fashion, photography, and creative experiences—helping them express themselves and feel celebrated.

Position Overview

The Fly Free Programs Coordinator supports the execution and growth of the Fly Free program by managing outreach, partnerships, and participant coordination. This role plays a key part in securing in-kind donations, building relationships with industry partners, and ensuring children and families are connected to meaningful opportunities.

You will work closely with leadership to maintain program operations, support outreach efforts, and ensure a positive experience for all participants.

Responsibilities

  • Train and onboard new volunteers within the Fly Free program
  • Conduct outreach via email and phone to secure clothing, food, and in-kind donations
  • Send thank-you communications to donors, partners, and organizations following events
  • Research and build relationships with studios, photographers, modeling agencies, designers, and related partners
  • Coordinate with parents/guardians to share and schedule program opportunities
  • Maintain and update program databases, including partners, donors, and participants
  • Track outreach efforts and partnership development
  • Assist in organizing Fly Free program experiences and events
  • Prepare and submit weekly and monthly reports to leadership
  • Ensure accurate documentation and follow-up across all program activities

Qualifications

  • 1–3+ years of experience in program coordination, nonprofit work, outreach, or related field (internships/volunteer experience accepted)
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), especially for outreach and relationship-building
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and follow through on outreach efforts
  • Comfortable communicating with external partners and stakeholders
  • Experience with Google Workspace or Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • Interest in fashion, media, or creative industries is a plus
  • Passion for supporting children and mission-driven work

Additional Information

  • Commitment: 5–10 hours per week
  • Minimum Duration: 3–6 months
  • Location: Remote
  • Flexible schedule with occasional team meetings
