A Free Bird is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering children affected by cancer through the healing power of the arts. Our programs provide opportunities for children to explore creative outlets such as music, visual art, writing, acting, and more—helping them build confidence, resilience, and hope.
Position Overview
The Take Flight Programs Coordinator plays a key role in managing and growing A Free Bird’s Take Flight program. This program connects children with volunteer tutors and provides access to creative and educational opportunities.
In this role, you will oversee program operations, coordinate with families and partners, and ensure that children are successfully matched with tutors and opportunities that support their artistic and personal development.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Take Flight program
- Train and onboard new volunteers within the program
- Coordinate communication between families, tutors, and organizational partners
- Manage and respond to multiple requests from parents, hospitals, and affiliates
- Conduct outreach to hospitals, organizations, and communities to expand program reach
- Build and maintain partnerships with hospitals, tutors, and institutions
- Coordinate opportunities (events, tutoring, experiences) for children and their families
- Maintain and update program databases, including hospitals, tutors, and participants
- Monitor and stay up to date on partner policies that may impact program participants
- Ensure proper documentation of participant engagement and program activities
- Prepare and submit weekly and monthly reports to leadership
Qualifications
- 1–3+ years of experience in program coordination, nonprofit work, education, or related field
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience working with families, children, or community-based programs preferred
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Detail-oriented with strong administrative and documentation skills
- Comfortable working independently in a remote setting
- Passion for nonprofit work and supporting children through creative programs
Additional Information
- Commitment: 5–10 hours per week
- Minimum Duration: 3–6 months
- Location: Remote
- Flexible schedule with some availability for meetings
