Basic Function
Provide a variety of library services and programs for children and young adults.
SHIFT: 30 hrs/week
SALARY: 5A
REPORTS TO: Young Adult Librarian
POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None
Typical Duties
1. Assist patrons in the use of online catalog and use of library materials and resources.
2. Schedule, prepare, and conduct tours and outreach for groups of young adults.
3. Preview new young adult materials and maintain currency with young adult literature.
4. Create displays and lists of materials and resources relevant to young adults.
5. Create promotional materials and submit publicity to the media for events and programs.
6. Schedule, create, prepare, and conduct programming that is engaging to young adults.
7. Recruit people from outside agencies to produce special events and programs.
8. Compile monthly statistics of activities.
Position Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. One year of library experience, or one year, teaching experience. An Associate Degree in childhood development can also substitute for experience.
3. Two years of work experience with young adults in a structured environment.
4. Experience with personal computers, MS Word, Excel, Desktop publishing tools.
5. PREFFERED: Experience with computerized library systems.
6. PREFFERED: Ability to have and maintain a valid driver’s license and to meet insurance standards and maintain insurability under the Borough’s insurance program. If personal automobile is used for Borough business, proof of insurance at statutory limits must be provided. (A CURRENT COPY OF DRIVING RECORD WILL BE REQUIRED UPON REQUEST.)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1. Demonstrated knowledge of classic and current young adult literature.
2. Knowledge and experience in use of office equipment such as copiers, scanners, fax, multi-function phone, printers, etc.
3. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and perform in front of groups - large and small.
OTHER
1. A SKILLS TEST MAY BE ADMINSTERED TO ALL QUALIFIED CANDIDATES.
2. This position requires a criminal background investigation and fingerprinting.

JOB CONTACTS:
Frequent business contact with other employees in own department, continuous routine public contacts, and frequent contacts involving outside organizations/agencies.
JOB RESPONSIBILITY:
Supervisor responsibilities: directs workflow of temporary/seasonal/volunteers; experiences minor problems daily and occasional major ones with little immediate supervision required, must use own initiative in handling most problems; the consequences of error, carelessness or mistaken judgment require minimal effort to recover.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
General office where conditions are pleasant; good, clean conditions where accidents/hazards are negligible; requires short periods of moderate lifting, pushing or pulling (26-50 lbs.).
