Position: Teacher – Community Transitions
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current Washington State Teaching Certificate with Special Education Endorsement
- Experience working with 18–22-year-old youth in an adult-focused transition program
- Experience working with students with disabilities in an integrated setting
- Experience developing, writing, and implementing IEP services focused on increasing students’ skills for independence in adulthood
- Ability to work with classified program staff, specialist providers, and community and Adult Service Agencies as members of a collaborative team
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead in transdisciplinary team meetings, multidisciplinary staffing’s, annual reviews, parent conferences, and faculty meetings
- Collaborate with team members to develop and modify goals/objectives on student IEPs. Ensure that goals/objectives are outcome-based, longitudinal, measurable and, when appropriate, are aligned with the Washington State Learning Standards
- Implement student IEPs utilizing teaching methods, materials, and adaptations appropriate to meet individual student needs
- Utilize positive behavior management techniques. Ensure consistent management across team members
- Implement instruction consisting of content in the community living domains, functional academics, and vocational preparing student for employment and independent living
- Design, revise, and maintain a class schedule consisting of activities developed from student IEP transition goals/objectives. Provide instruction in integrated environments
- Provide opportunities to interact with peers to form friendships and support networks
- Implement programs and procedures recommended by transdisciplinary team members
- Demonstrate team leadership skills for a group of paraprofessionals
- Demonstrate a consistent method of assessing student growth via the use of clear criteria and is congruent with student goals. Collect and summarize performance date on an ongoing basis
- Collaborate with team members to report on student progress by the established timelines
- Participate in Transition Planning meeting and implement movement to adult services for existing students
- Create and maintain work based learning opportunities in the community
- Teach public transportation and community safety.
- Obtain driving requirements for Lynden School District Transportation as required.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Work Year: 2026-2027 school year; continuing position
Hours: 7 hours per day; 7:50 a.m. – 3:20 p.m.; Monday-Friday
Starting Date: August 26, 2026
FTE: 1.0 FTE
Salary: Per negotiated LEA contract. Per negotiated LEA contract. The 2025-26 Pay Range for 1.0 FTE is $69,031 - $136,249 dependent upon degree, credits, and school district teaching experience.
Benefits: This position qualifies for healthcare benefits (medical insurance, vision insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, and disability insurance), retirement benefits, up to 12 days of sick leave, and up to three (3) days of personal leave per school year. (Days of sick leave and personal leave are prorated based on employee start date.)
