Accounting Intern

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 

Reporting to the Controller, the intern will perform general accounting tasks. The intern will receive training in how to apply generally accepted accounting principles to common accounting transactions and reconciliations in the context of a nonprofit health and human services nonprofit organization. The intern is expected to work 20 to 32 hours per week according to an agreed upon schedule  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Prepare monthly invoices for cost reimbursement contracts based on monthly expenses 
  • Review deposits and record cash deposits 
  • Record monthly invoices in accounts receivable 
  • Research variances, if any, between cash received and invoices 
  • Prepare assigned balance sheet reconciliations 
  • Ad hoc accounting and finance duties

  • Basic understanding of accounting theory and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles 
  • Basic proficiency in Excel and Word

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; able to work effectively with diverse staff. 
  • Strong written communication skills, including clarity, grammar, and organization. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing deadlines. 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: 

Completion of at least 60 college level units. 

Completion of principles of financial and managerial accounting classes and at least one intermediate accounting class
