Summer School Living Environment Teacher
The Hyde Park Central School District is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to serve as a Living Environment Teacher for the 2026 Summer School Program at F.D. Roosevelt High School. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing engaging, high-quality instruction in Living Environment, fostering a positive learning environment, and ensuring student success in meeting New York State learning standards.

Work Schedule: July 6, 2026 - August 13, 2026, Monday - Thursday 7:30 am - 12:00 pm
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a condensed, high-impact curriculum covering the NYS Living Environment standards, including cell biology, genetics, evolution, ecology, and human body systems.
- Facilitate rigorous preparation for the Living Environment Regents Exam, focusing on test-taking strategies and Part D laboratory requirements.
- Oversee and document the completion of mandated NYS laboratory requirements for students who have not yet met the 1,200-minute threshold.
- Adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students in a credit-recovery setting, including those with IEPs or 504 plans.
- Use student performance data to identify gaps in understanding and adjust daily lessons accordingly.
- Classroom Management: Maintain a positive, disciplined, and safe classroom environment conducive to accelerated summer learning.
Qualifications
- Certification: Valid New York State Certification in Biology (7-12) or General Science (7-12) is required.
- Skills: Knowledge of the NYS Living Environment Core Curriculum.
- Ability to engage students through hands-on lab work and interactive technology.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with students in a short timeframe.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to professional growth and collaboration.
- A strong dedication to student success and well-being.
- Experience: Previous experience teaching Living Environment at the high school level is strongly preferred. Experience with credit recovery or summer school programs is a plus.
