CAREER CENTER GRADUATE STUDENT WORKER

The Career Center Graduate Student Worker supports the development and facilitation of new student and senior transition programs. This role also assists in the planning and execution of Career Center–sponsored fairs and events, as well as the collection and analysis of data from program evaluations and surveys. Additional responsibilities may be assigned at the discretion of Career Center leadership staff.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Uphold campus policies and graduate assistant expectations. 
  2. Assist professional staff with employer relations and internship inquiries from students and employers. 
  3. Deliver exceptional customer service in all interactions with students, employers, faculty, staff, and alumni. 
  4. Manage front desk operations, including greeting visitors, answering and directing phone calls, and maintaining a tidy, welcoming reception area. 
  5. Assist in the planning, implementation, and staffing of Career Center programs and events. 
  6. Evaluate résumés, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles for students and alumni. 
  7. Upon training and approval, facilitate mock interviews. 
  8. Support the management of the online job board (Handshake). 
  9. Maintain scheduled office hours and uphold a professional office environment. 
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by Career Center professional staff.

Education and Experience:

  1. Completed Bachelor’s degree 
  2. Full-time enrollment (as defined by the respective institution) each semester in a graduate program at California Baptist University. 
  3. Experience in student services or other related field is preferred.

The Career Center Graduate Student Worker is a graduate school student serving under the supervision of the Director of Career Center. To assist in meeting the daily operational needs of the Career Center by working directly with the Administrative Assistant, Assistant Director (s), Director, and Career Counselor(s).  The Graduate Student Worker should always remain professional and will serve as a liaison between employers, students, staff, faculty and the CBU Community.  Applicants with previous experience or who have a desire to pursue a career in student affairs or other related field are preferred.

 

The position is scheduled to begin in August 2026 and continue through April 2027, with the potential for extension based on departmental needs.  It is assumed that the Career Center Graduate Student Worker, in accepting the position, makes a commitment to serve approximately 20 hours per week.  The Director of Career Center has the option of extending a Career Center Graduate Student Worker position beyond a one-year appointment, depending on the quality of performance and length of the student’s graduate program.

 

Expectation for Graduate Study

At the time of application, Graduate Student Worker Candidates are required to submit proof of acceptance into an approved graduate program at California Baptist University or another approved institution.  Throughout their entire term of appointment, Graduate Student Workers must maintain full-time enrollment (as defined by the respective college/university).  Students wishing to exceed full time enrollment status must obtain approval from their respective supervisor prior to the start of classes.  Requests for other exceptions to enrollment requirements must be submitted in writing to and approved by the Associate Dean of Students.  For details regarding graduate programs offered at CBU, please contact the Graduate Admissions Office. 

 

Time Commitments

The Career Center Graduate Student Worker has daytime and afternoon meetings, daily assignments, and the responsibility of planning a weekly schedule, which includes the following:

•   Maintaining evening availability for programs (as arranged with supervisor)

•   Maintaining scheduled office hours in the Career Center
