School Operations Assistant
Equality Charter Middle School is seeking an energetic, adaptable, and highly organized individual to join our Operations team. This role supports both school operations and food service functions, and requires a collaborative team player who can thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing school environment while working with a diverse student and staff population.
Key Responsibilities:
Administrative & Office Support
- Provide general administrative and clerical support
- Answer phones and respond to emails in a timely and professional manner
- Prepare and modify documents, including correspondence, reports, and memos
- Enter data into student information systems and generate reports
- Schedule appointments and support daily office operations
- Communicate effectively with parents, students, and staff
- Organize staff supply rooms and assist in resolving administrative issues
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, including lunch applications and student records
Student & School Operations Support
- Help to manage student IDs and MetroCards
- Support enrollment processes and compliance requirements
- Assist with school-wide operational needs as directed by the Director of Operations or Office Manager
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Food Service & Cafeteria Operations
- Set up equipment, and prepare cafeteria for daily service
- Maintain consistency in food preparation and service for students and staff
- Receive, inspect, and sign for food deliveries
- Monitor and maintain kitchen and refrigeration equipment
- Manage inventory of food, supplies, and materials (including rotating stock and checking expiration dates)
- Keep accurate records of meal counts and adjust ordering as needed
- manage field trip and special event meals
- Clean and sanitize kitchen, counters, and equipment
- Prepare cafeteria for next day operations and secure when not in use
- Perform tasks that may require lifting (e.g., milk crates, food containers)
Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma required, College degree preferred.
- Food Handler’s Certificate required
- Prior experience in a school cafeteria or food service setting preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and web-based systems
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Customer-service oriented with strong interpersonal skills
- Reliable, flexible, and able to complete tasks from start to finish
