Position Summary:

We’re looking for Innovation Summer Interns who can build end‑to‑end products - from intuitive, store‑facing interfaces to robust backends and data models - to help prototype the future of convenience retail.

Responsibilities:

What you’ll work on

  • Build full‑stack MVPs: design and develop features across frontend, backend, and databases to validate new in‑store and shopper experiences.
  • Integrate real systems: connect to SaaS APIs, design REST/GraphQL endpoints, and use queues/events to make services resilient and decoupled.
  • Ship to the cloud: deploy and monitor services on AWS, Azure, or GCP, and contribute to CI/CD pipelines and basic infrastructure‑as‑code templates.
  • Analyze real data: use SQL to explore transactional and operational datasets (basket analysis, funnel drop‑offs, conversion, operational KPIs) to inform product decisions.

Skills we’re looking for

  • Full‑stack foundations: Experience with a modern frontend framework (React or Angular) and at least one backend stack (Node.js, Python/Django/Flask, Java/Spring, or Go).
  • Databases: familiarity with SQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and at least one NoSQL store (MongoDB, Redis), with a sense for when to use which.
  • APIs & integrations: understanding of REST and GraphQL, experience (coursework or projects) integrating external SaaS APIs and handling auth/identity.
  • Cloud & DevOps awareness: hands‑on exposure to a major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP), plus conceptual understanding of IaC and CI/CD.
  • Innovation mindset: comfort with rapid prototyping, iterating quickly, and building “just enough” to test assumptions before scaling.
  • Analytics: strong SQL skills and curiosity to dive into data to answer practical product and operations questions.

Who you are

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field.
  • Excited about retail and in‑store experiences, and eager to see your work tested in real Cumberland Farms environments.
  • A builder who learns fast, asks sharp questions, and is comfortable owning projects end‑to‑end with guidance from senior engineers and product leaders.

Working Relationships: Excellent cross-functional relationships across various departments such as IT, Finance, Marketing, Finance, Operations and Customer Service etc. and EG Field Team members (Stores, DMs & RMs)

Requirements

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Adaptability and change agility.
