Packaging Engineer
Job description
Summary:
This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and improvement of primary and secondary packaging across multiple product lines, as well as cost reduction and process/manufacturing continuous improvement projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Improve productivity, line speed, efficiency, reduce waste, and eliminate bottlenecks associated with packaging components and fill line equipment to enhance company OEE.
- Direct the execution of Lean initiatives, targeted towards improving company’s performance on safety, quality, delivery, and cost associated to packaging material.
- Assess and diagnose root cause to implement corrective actions for production line efficiencies.
- Serve as technical liaison to our internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop designs, specifications, samples, and written analysis of new or proposed packaging solutions.
- Conduct package testing protocols to include filling, capping, warehouse, and ship tests.
- Review and approve packaging mold qualifications and manufacturing line trials.
- Provide key technical support for packaging quality deviations and corrective and preventive actions.
- Ability to conduct capacity studies and identify/implement productivity improvements for new technologies or packaging.
- Lead technical expert for UN and 49 CFR regulations as it pertains to hazardous material shipments.
- Develop/deliver technical training for various levels of the organization and suppliers as needed.

Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree with emphasis on packaging/industrial engineering or related business field.
Experience Requirements:
- Experience with packaging engineering preferably in personal care industry.
- Experience with corrugate in a manufacturing environment
- Proficient with 3D modeling and pallet configuration software such as SolidWorks and TOPS.
- Working knowledge of 49 CFR regulations, UN Certification, ISTA and ASTM standards.
- Familiar with Lean principles and Six Sigma.
