Keep the technology behind public service running securely.
As an entry-level IT Specialist, you'll help federal teams operate securely and effectively - troubleshooting the systems people rely on every day and learning how enterprise IT and cybersecurity work at scale. It's a strong launch pad toward systems, security, cloud, or data roles.
What you'll do
- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot hardware, software, and networks
- Support applications, data tools, and user-facing technology services
- Help apply and monitor cybersecurity controls
- Use approved automation and AI-enabled tools to speed up troubleshooting, documentation, and system research (training provided)
What we're looking for (skills, not years)
- Strong troubleshooting instincts and patience with non-technical users
- Exposure to one or more of: networking basics, a ticketing/help-desk tool, scripting, or a relevant certification (CompTIA A+/Network+ a plus, not required)
- Curiosity and a security-minded approach
The basics
- Pay: $50,460–$121,371/year (spans multiple grades and duty locations; your offer depends on grade and location).
- Location: Onsite. Hiring nationwide, including Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, New York, Philadelphia, San Diego, Washington DC, and more.
- Benefits: Federal health, retirement (FERS + TSP), and paid leave; certification and development support; and, through the Pathways Program, a potential path to a permanent federal position.
- Eligibility: U.S. citizenship required.
