Welding Engineer -Britton, MI

- Support Operations in acquiring the needed level of equipment knowledge.
- Provide key input into the development of departmental strategic goals along with identifying key measurable to support the departmental goals.
- Specify welding equipment, welding consumables, electrical and mechanical systems, robotic systems, and any related components associated with the welding process.
- Assist in development of the weld quality control process.
- Guides design develops and tests welding methods, materials, processes and results.
- Assist Quality Assurance department in maintaining weld integrity. Interface with manufacturing and maintenance to resolve welding and welding system issues.
- Assist with MRO crib activities.
- Support project engineering on new and existing programs.
- Assist in the integration, start-up and debug of plant floor welding equipment.
- Champion assigned engineering changes, communicate and coordinate accordingly to all departments.
- Train, coach and mentor the welding process for weld engineers, manufacturing and skilled trades colleagues.
- Direct and/or participate in root cause analysis and team problem solving activities (ex. 8D reports, department meetings, etc.).
- Review and resolve all weld cut and etch and destruct related issues.
- Initiate cross-functional equipment design reviews.
- Support new model launches and improvement teams.
- Support tool tryouts at supplier and in-house capability runs.
- This role is a part of our Corporate Engineering Team and reports to the Welding Engineering Manager.
Required experience:
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; 3-5 years plus related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to work with Microsoft Office at an intermediate level
- Ability to work with MQ1 and QAD database
- MIG and Spot-Welding
