Instrument Person

Hulbert Engineering and Land Surveying, D.P.C. is looking for motivated, career-minded individual to fill an Instrument Person position.

Role:

The Instrument Person will perform field surveys throughout New York with the Party Chief. Experience with Total Stations, Leica GPS equipment, and data collection software is required, along with downloading/uploading files in accordance with company procedures. Knowledge and ability to collect data in a manner acceptable for field to finish procedures is desired. The Instrument Person will also perform in office duties related to CAD mapping with MicroStation and AutoCAD, deed research, and deed plots. A successful candidate must have valid driver's license, a good driving record, and be physically capable and willing to perform full day outdoor work.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in a two-man field crew.
  • Prepare field notes, sketches and photos.
  • Collect data for boundary, topographic, utility, construction layout, wetlands, ATLA/NSPS, project levels, and other types of surveys.
  • Utilize robotic total stations, optical/digital levels, and GPS.
  • Perform daily downloads of data collector files.
  • Adhere to company protocols for maintenance and upkeep of survey equipment and vehicles.
  • Interface with clients in the field and report project status to the assigned project manager.
  • Adjust survey instruments such as total stations and prism poles.

As an Instrument Person assigned to a field position you will be expected to perform work year-round, in varying weather conditions that may be wet, cold or hot. You will have to carry equipment and lift heavy objects. You may be required to work nights and weekends.

Experience:

  • Two-year Associates Degree or Technical Certificate or One year experience with boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS surveys, and construction layout.
  • Experience with Leica robotic total stations and GPS.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Leica data collection software, MicroStation, and Auto CAD software.
  • Ability to react positively to difficult project assignments and/or clients.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently yet follow defined procedures.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have a clean driving record.
  • Must be willing to travel.

 

Pay Rate: $16-18
