Senior Accountant – Fuels & Inventory Accounting

Anchorage, Alaska (Remote – Travel Required)

ARC Group is seeking a Senior Accountant to support a Fortune 500 client in the fuels distribution industry during a critical system transition and integration project. This is a 12-month contract opportunity with a preference for candidates based in Anchorage, AK; however, qualified candidates open to a hybrid arrangement with periodic travel to Anchorage will be considered.

The ideal candidate will bring strong general ledger and inventory accounting expertise, along with hands-on experience in process design and ERP system integrations, particularly within operational environments transitioning from Ascend to Vertrax integrated with Oracle.

This role is heavily focused on month-end close, inventory accuracy, accrual management, intercompany accounting, and tax compliance, while partnering cross-functionally to ensure data integrity and seamless system integration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute the monthly close process in alignment with the fuels business closing calendar
  • Prepare and post recurring and ad hoc journal entries, including:
    • Inventory accruals
    • Intercompany transactions
    • Deferred drydock, leases, and prepaid amortizations
  • Perform general ledger reconciliations, including inventory, accruals, clearing accounts, prepaids, and cash
  • Validate and reconcile data flows from Ascend and Vertrax into Oracle, ensuring accurate mapping and resolution of suspense items
  • Partner with Operations and IT teams to support system transition activities, including testing, reconciliations, and process documentation
  • Verify fuel inventory quantities, valuations, and cost allocations across terminals and vessels
  • Manage purchase order accruals and reversals to ensure proper cut-off and expense recognition
  • Prepare and reconcile intercompany transactions, ensuring accuracy across entities
  • Support Form 720 fuel tax filings, ensuring compliance and accuracy
  • Produce and distribute monthly terminal and cost center reporting to finance and operational leadership
  • Identify and implement process improvements related to close, system integrations, and reporting workflows

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience in fuel distribution, logistics, or marine operations strongly preferred
  • Hands-on experience with ERP system integrations (ideally Ascend, Vertrax, and Oracle)
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and fuel excise tax (Form 730)
  • Proven ability to analyze complex data, reconcile discrepancies, and improve processes
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally
