Human Resources Intern

Position Summary

The Human Resources Intern provides administrative and clerical support to the HR department. This role assists with maintaining employee records, conducting reference checks, and supporting day-to-day HR operations. The intern will gain hands-on experience in HR processes while developing strong organizational and professional skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • File, organize, and maintain employee personnel files (paper and electronic)
  • Audit personnel files to ensure completeness and compliance
  • Conduct employment reference checks and document results
  • Assist with data entry and updating HR systems and spreadsheets
  • Prepare and organize HR-related documents and forms
  • Support other administrative tasks as needed, including copying, scanning, and assembling materials
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee information at all times

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program related to Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to handle confidential information professionally
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions

Preferred Skills

  • Interest in Human Resources or administrative work
  • Experience with filing systems or office administration
  • Familiarity with HR or payroll systems (a plus, not required)

Physical and Work Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks such as filing
  • Occasional lifting of files or boxes (up to 30 lbs.)
