Primary Job Function

Assist the Brighter Magazine Editorial and Program Department heads in the gathering and editing of all magazine graphic content. Design and layout of the publication. Work with the Founder to increase awareness and engagement through graphically engaging content in the publication, as well as on social media and the website. Help with all other graphic needs that support the organization. Graphic designer must be in the office (Dallas, TX) on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 

General Duties

  • Work with the Founder to ensure consistency of voice throughout the brand.
  • Work with the Founder to select, create, design specific graphics to strengthen the magazine.
  • Design layout for the quarterly publication that has consistency from past issues.
  • Work with the Managing Editor and Program Manager to run all social media pages.
  • Work on web graphics and other marketing materials for various programs and campaigns.
  • Periodically update website pages as directed by the Founder
  • Work with Brighter Magazine’s Monday.com project management system to help stay on task and move forward efficiently.
  • Periodically promote and attend events to build excitement and demonstrate Brighter’s value in the community.
  • Volunteer for service days when possible.
  • Research and recommend potential ideas for Brighter Magazine to improve visibility and content curation, and sponsorship acquisition.
  • Be an advocate for Brighter Magazine in the community and through its programs.
  • Assist with fundraising efforts during campaigns or other events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Working knowledge of the Adobe Suite, Google, Word, Monday.com
  • Attention to detail - both grammar and visual as well as time management
  • Enthusiastic attitude and creative skills
  • Willingness to learn more, add greater value to Brighter Magazine and make suggestions as needed
  • Able to be a team-player and work with others, including Brighter Board Members and team, as well as other volunteers and interns.
  • Ability to engage in a professional manner and responsibly treat this position as a serious job

Performance Measurements

  • Increase the lifestyle element of the publication through sophisticated, creative layouts
  • Create engaging spreads that encourage an increase in subscriptions and requests for the publication
  • Increase website use and traffic
  • Meet deadlines and curate graphics with category and brand standards
