Job Description: Summer Camp Educator – STRÖVA Program
Location: Downtown Boise Hub (510 S 11th St)
Pay Range: $16.00 – $18.00 / hour
Status: Part-Time, Seasonal (Summer)
Shifts: Monday – Friday | Morning (8:15 AM – 12:30 PM) or Afternoon (1:00 PM – 5:00 PM)
About STRÖVA
Named after the Swedish word for "to roam," STRÖVA is a downtown Boise summer camp for curious kids in grades K-6. Our mission is to bridge the gap between Boise’s urban center and its natural spaces. Inspired by Scandinavian roots—specifically Friluftsliv (open-air life) and Samarbete (teamwork)—we spend 70% of our time outdoors, rain or shine, exploring everything from the Boise River to the historic Basque Block.
The Role
We are looking for energetic, nature-loving, and dependable Summer Camp Educators to lead our campers through a summer of urban exploration. As an educator, you aren’t just a supervisor; you are a facilitator of wonder, a guide through the city streets, and a champion of kind urban citizenship.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Expeditions: Guide groups of children (pre-K-6th grade) on daily walks to the Greenbelt, local parks, museums, and civic spaces.
Facilitate Learning: Implement weekly-themed curriculum involving "Urban Labs," "Maker Sessions," and nature-based art.
Foster Community: Lead "Morgonsamling" (Morning Circle) and "Fika" (snack/reflection time), ensuring every child feels a sense of belonging and "Hygge."
Safety & Logistics: Maintain high safety standards while navigating downtown Boise
Encourage Resilience: Support children as they build grit and adaptability through outdoor play in various weather conditions.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Lead Educator and Hub staff to ensure smooth transitions between morning and afternoon sessions.
Qualifications
Experience: Previous experience working with elementary-aged children (K-6) in a camp, school, or childcare setting.
Passion for the Outdoors: A genuine love for nature and a "no such thing as bad weather" attitude.
Active Lifestyle: Ability to walk several miles a day and remain active on your feet for the duration of a 4-hour shift.
Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to engage with children, parents, and local community partners.
Values: Alignment with the Scandinavian philosophy of child-led play, cooperation, and environmental stewardship.
Requirements: Must pass a background check and hold (or be willing to obtain) Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification.
Why Join the STRÖVA Team?
Impact: Help children develop a deep, lifelong connection to the Boise community.
Environment: Spend your summer outdoors exploring the best of downtown Boise rather than being stuck behind a desk.
Culture: Join a team that values wellbeing, restorative practices, and the joy of "roaming."
