Senior Capital Delivery Intern [Graduate Students]
Capital Delivery manages the design, construction, and turnover of projects in the Alternative Delivery, Bridge and Structures, Facilities Projects, and Special Projects groups. The team provides technical expertise and support for capital project delivery to departments across the MBTA. Capital Delivery works closely with OCE, Operations, Engineering and Maintenance, Railroad Operations, Customer Experience, Customer Technology, Capital Planning, Capital Finance, and others to safely, effectively, and efficiently deliver projects that improve the MBTA’s infrastructure, safety, operations, and customer experience. Capital delivery closely monitors scope, quality, safety, and cost on all projects to provide the best value to the MBTA. Capital Delivery subgroups are Alternative Delivery, Bridge & Structures, Facilities Projects, and Special Projects.
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA or the “T”) is seeking interns / co-ops interested in learning about and assisting with the management of the MBTA’s Capital Delivery group projects. Project interns will be exposed to MBTA policies, financial practices, project execution policies, and technical challenges related to delivering projects.
Based on the best fit, Project Interns will be placed with one of Capital Delivery’s four teams: Alternate Delivery, Bridge & Structures, Facilities Projects, or Special Projects.
We are looking to hire five (5) interns, who will work at least 2 - 3 days onsite (40 hours per week) for either three (3) or six (6) months, depending on the student’s availability.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Attend project-level meetings with various internal and external stakeholder groups, assemble the Project Manager (PM) record of the meeting / minutes. Assist in the distribution of related materials.
- Assist with the management of design and construction phase projects by attending project-level progress and coordination meetings with the design consultant and / or the construction contractor.
- Shadow Project Managers or Senior Project Managers for specific project-related meetings and / or site visits.
- Develop and maintain a lessons-learned database for use by PMs on closeout of task orders and / or PS contract items.
- Improve efficiency by automating repetitive and redundant tasks.
- Deliver innovative solutions to dynamic problems.
- Develop inventory with links to reports, inspection data, and asset mapping information.
- Develop and maintain monthly project reporting materials, presentation graphics, charts, and data tables.
- Participate in team / staff meetings, organization events, fieldwork, project teams, or other duties as needed.
- Additional responsibilities may include focusing on one or more departments or locations. See applicable addendums or hiring manager for department or location specific functions.
- Provide internal and external customers with courteous and professional experience.
- Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.

Minimum Education
- Enrolled, for entire duration of employment, in the graduate / master’s degree program of an accredited college / university in Engineering, Architecture, Urban Design or Planning, Construction Management, Public Policy, Real Estate Development, or Business Administration.
Minimum Experience and Required Skills
- Effective organizational, analytical, multi-tasking, and interpersonal skills
- At least one year of experience with Adobe suite, GIS, and CAD software.
- Above average proficiency in Microsoft Office and database applications.
- Above average ability to communicate effectively in English, both in written and oral forms.
- Highly organized, motivated, and have great attention-to-detail.
- Strong interest in public service, transit, or transportation and how it operates.
- Above average ability to work effectively in diverse, collaborative, fast-paced environments as well as independently.
- Ability to independently commute to assigned work locations in the Boston, MA metro area, as required by the role.
- Authorized to work in the United States (international students in CPT, STEM, or OPT programs through a university are eligible to apply). The MBTA does not provide visa sponsorship, such as H1-B status.
