Field Application and Service Engineer (FASE)

Position Summary
We are seeking a Field Application and Service Engineer (FASE) to support the Midwest territory by keeping system equipment in optimal shape for our customer base. You will be responsible for system installations, customer training, application and programming support, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting. The position will work closely with Sales to assist in instrument demonstrations and other tasks to grow the business. As part of a small, elite team, we will look to you to help identify new trends, contribute to documentation or tech notes, and streamline applications as needed. We are looking for a quick learner who can operate independently yet cooperatively to support innovations, keep the existing installation base operational, and instill confidence in our products.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and support lab automation systems for customers
- Develop and refine instrument methods for a diverse customer base
- Understand and analyze project requirements and translate those into programming deliverables
- Work as part of a cross-trained and highly dynamic team (hardware, software, applications)
- Work with the Engineering and R&D teams to assist in product testing, feedback, and improvements
- Collaborate with the Sales team for instrument demonstrations (pre- and post-sales)
- Provide customer training and application support
- Coordinate expectations on shipping and installation logistics
- Schedule & coordinate preventative maintenance each month to be completed
- Receive customer calls for service-related issues. Triage and assess remotely or in-person
Qualifications
- BS/BA in Biology, Computer Science, or an applied engineering discipline
- Solid programming experience with automation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to travel (30-50%)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to commute to Polk City, IA
Preferred Skills (Pluses)
- Proven track record of implementing lab automation in the life sciences
- Understanding of computer communications (TCP/IP, RS232) & networking
- Comfortable working with hardware and willing to learn
- Comfort with scripting languages (predominantly C#) and willingness to learn programming languages to embellish system capabilities
- Willingness to share your knowledge and experience for the benefit of the team or product
